This webinar will cover an introduction, background overview of the IEEE 802.16s standard, a narrow channel amendment to IEEE 802.16 and is used by electric utilities and other mission-critical industries for mission-critical telecommunications. IEEE 802.16s allows operation in channel sizes from 100 kHz up to 1.25 MHz and provides a standard wireless solution for Mission Critical Internet of Things (MC-IoT). It is the only standard wireless technology that was created by and for the non-consumer based market for critical communications. The standard does not specify frequency band, so it is flexible and can be used in any spectrum. The webinar will include two case studies of IEEE 802.16s in use: Rappahannock Electric Cooperative (REC) and Chevron.
REC is a member-owned utility that provides electric service to over 165,000 connections in portions of 22 Virginia counties. Their case study will explore their 802.16s deployment, modernizing their communications network, expanding SCADA applications, and replacing a narrowband Multiple Address System (MAS) network.
Chevron’s case study will include: growth in data requirements, decommissioning of legacy copper circuits, scalability of standard technology a discussion of coverage advantages and how their IEEE 802.16s pilot is helping them meet these challenges.
